three years in the making

Hey friends!

Happy Autumn everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here. Life has been insane, but I really want to get back to blogging at least every now and then. 🙂  So, to start, here’s a few updates and then some news!

Update #1

After receiving my Minister’s Certificate through Northwest University, I’ve transferred to Southwestern Assemblies of God University to begin pursuing a BA in Social Work. My greatest call in life has always been toward ministry, but as I’m sure many of you are aware, it doesn’t always pay well to be a pastor. So I’m preparing to be bi-vocational (have two careers). One of my greatest passions in life is children, adoption and foster care, and just protecting people in general. For me, working toward being a social worker, is just one way that I can help kids in bad situations and put them into good ones. I’m so passionate about that. And one day, I hope to adopt and foster children of my own. But one step at a time. 🙂

Update #2

I live in California. If you know anything about California, it’s probably that the housing prices are r i d i c u l o u s here. Well, in the Spring of 2017, I made the decision to build myself a Tiny House on Wheels (if you don’t know what that is, google it and be amazed). It has been such an extraordinary journey and I’ve learned so much! I’m so excited to move in! We’re aiming to have the house move-in ready in Spring of 2019. One of my biggest goals with this house was that I maintain financial stability. So, I took out a small loan to pay for the trailer and then have paid for the materials and appliances as I go, as well as building the whole thing myself (with help from friends and family, of course) so as to not have to factor in the cost of labor. What’s really awesome about this is that not only are my monthly loan payments a fraction of the cost of what average monthly rent is in California, but I’ll also have the loan paid off within 5 years. Which means that I will be a debt-free homeowner by the time I’m 27. Insane. If you want to follow my progress, check out @thezionhouse on Instagram!

Surprise News

And finally, if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that one of my greatest passions is writing. And there’s one story I wrote back in the fall of 2015 that I have been wrestling and poring over for the last three years. And finally, after just buckling down and focusing on it, I have begun the process toward publishing my Young Adult Contemporary/Literary novel Love and the Sea and Everything in Between. Guys, I can’t even begin to express to you how much this story means to me and how close to my heart it is. To finally be able to put this story out on the shelves is huge. It’s three years in the making. To follow my journey, head on over to @brianmcbrideauthor on Instagram for all the latest book news! And keep your eyes peeled for a cover reveal and a release date!
